The BASC Deer Department is delighted to be offering three seminars on “Working with dogs for tracking deer” led by Niels Søndergaard. This will be our third year of delivering these highly successful and very popular training events.

Niels 2      Niels 3

This two-day course is aimed at both recreational and professional deer managers and stalkers and will be delivered by one of the foremost authorities on the subject of training and working dogs for finding injured deer. The continental methods promoted on the course will have many applications for following up of wounded or injured deer in the UK.

Niels Søndergaard has 16 years experience of handling hunting dogs, is a judge at Danish trials, has worked for the police dog training and has been trained in the German organisation ‘Verein Hirschmann’. He has also run training courses in Denmark, Ireland, England, Sweden and Norway and is the author of the definitive book ‘Working with Dogs for Deer’.

Niels is now Manager of Game and Wildlife at HedeDenmark for the Forest and Landscape Department, which is Denmark’s largest private land management company.

This 2-day training course will include the subjects of blood tracking, selecting the right dog for the job, correct method of training and the actual process of tracking wounded or injured game.

The field sessions will allow the participants to test equipment and gain invaluable experience with their dogs under practical conditions with an expert mentor on hand to give advice.

The course will cost £195 per person for members and £240 for non-members including lunch, coffee and tea on both days.

Seminars will take place:
